Careers Education & Guidance

We have an ambitious and exciting careers programme at Richard Hale which supports students in all year groups to explore, prepare, and plan for the next stages of their lives and careers.

Our approach takes a holistic view of students’ skills and aspirations, using this to develop agency, reflective capacity, and a growth mind set. Careers education at Richard Hale is much more than just informing students of opportunities and pathways, it actively encourages them broaden their horizons and provides practical, hands on opportunities to explore a range of life skills.

Richard Hale School has implemented the eight Gatsby Benchmarks into its careers provision from Years 7 to 13. These benchmarks have been established to enable all students have access to a balanced, well-informed and age appropriate careers guidance programme throughout school. These benchmarks are:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance



The school works closely with a wide range of external providers and advisors who contribute to the strategic and operational arms of our programme. The careers team comprises:

The Richard Hale Careers Map


Our careers map shows how students in Year 7-11 will develop the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to be successful members of society. Students have a dedicated careers related session every fortnight as well as various opportunities throughout the year to take part in workshops, activities and encounters with employers.
