16-19 Bursary Policy

Full bursaries

These bursaries are available to students in any of the following categories:

  • young people in care
  • care leavers
  • young people in receipt of income support or universal credit
  • disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance Payment

Qualifying applicants will receive a bursary. This will be subject to the student attending all lessons and will be payable in arrears to allow for monitoring.

Discretionary bursaries

In keeping with current practice on financial support for school activities, Richard Hale School may provide bursaries to support students whose parents are entitled to any of the following state benefits:

  • Free school meals
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.

Parents will need to provide proof of entitlement to the benefits prior to payment. If you currently receive free school meals, no further proof is required with the application.

This commitment has a cash limit which is based on demand, the available funds allocated by the Education Funding Agency on an annual basis. Support may be considered by the school subject to availability of funds to support curriculum trips, fares to and from school and anything else school related.

Entitlement expectations

Students eligible for the 16‐19 Bursary must meet the criteria of a 95% attendance, unless absence is authorised. If this criterion is not met, payment will be forfeit for the week affected by absence.

Parents and students should complete this application form and send it to Mrs Baynes, with supporting evidence. Mrs Baynes will submit the application to the Headteacher, for approval.  The process of application and payments will remain confidential.
